Crias – Spring 2014…

Spring Crias - 2014Well, the 2014 birthing season is upon us and we’ve already got three munchkins on the ground – all boys so far! While we were hoping to get a better male-female ratio than our 2013 batch, which was 7 boys to 3 girls, we’re not having much success on that so far! We’re just happy to be having healthy cria!

We Got the Blues at the 2014 California Classic…

We Got the Blues at the 2014 California ClassicWe took our three new boys to the California Classic and came away with the blues. Blue Ribbons.

Each of the boys, Sebastian, Lance and Chupulu, won First Place in their respective classes, adding to their already very long list of ribbons and banners. They impressed a lot of competitors as well as visitors! Sebie was a favorite for photos with the general public – no doubt he’s already gracing many a Facebook profile pic!

Spring Additions – New Champion Herdsires

Spring Additions - New Champion Herdsires...For the Spring breeding season, we’ve brought in some new Champions and Blue Ribbon winners to have the honors. With three young silver grey studs (two of them multi-champs), and one truly epic fawn boy (whose EPDs are amazing), we’re planning to make leaps and bounds in improving our herd quality (and you should probably take the opportunity to do the same while these guys are at low intro prices).

Fall Breedings – Finally Done!!!

Fall 2014 Breedings Finally Done at Epic AlpacasWhile we still wait for the last two crias to be born from what was our “Fall” batch (please note, it’s January now), we have finally wrapped up our breeding season. We’ve had a very successful one, breeding nearly 30 of our girls to our herdsires, as well as some fine outside studs.

New Herdsires Join the Epic Alpacas HerdThis week has brought some amazing additions to the the Epic herd – two new silver grey herdsires, both sons of some of the top greys in the nation, and both superb studs in their own right. Welcome Morning Star’s Don Diego and Avatar’s Avalance!

Fall Crias Are a-Comin!!!

Fall Crias Are a-Comin at Epic AlpacasThe Fall crias started in October, with Cassie being born to Emily, then we had a month long pause while all the girls decided to clam up and keep their babies to themselves. Cassie is doing great and putting on tons of weight and is a bundle of energy (with some amazing crimpy fiber). Today, while going through a couple breedings to our new grey herdsire, Cinco, we noticed our guard llama, Tina, was in some distress. We checked her out to find that she was in labor and the little cria’s head was out, but no feet!
